PShock Torpedoes

Plasma Shock Torpedoes

Usually called "PShock" within the game, but described as "plasma-shock" in the description on Weapons, (new to Artemis 2.7) these torpedoes are similar to homing torpedoes, in that they can be fired in any direction, and will home in on that target. Unlike Nukes, they damage only a single target. However, like Nukes they deal damage over time, to any target that has no shields, or which has a current shield strength of 0. Most enemy ships, which have only 70 internal hull points, will be destroyed by a successful unshielded hit.

Unfortunately, even a single point of shielding will stop this damage over time, resulting in only 1 point of damage to shields. This means PShock torpedoes must be used in combination with beams or other torpedoes, to drop an enemy ship's shields before the PShock is fired. Timing is critical; if shields recharge by even one point before the PShock can hit the target, it will do no internal damage.

PShocks do only 1 point of damage to monsters, but any monster struck by a PShock will be temporarily frozen in place, unable to move or attack. This can serve as a distraction, allowing a friendly ship time to escape, or it can immobilize the monster while you deal with it with conventional weapons.

PShock torpedoes have no effect on the internal systems of player ships. They do deal the one point of shield damage, but Homing torpedoes are far more effective in this sense. They effect both allied ships and bases in the same way as enemy ships. (Although bases take only 1 point of damage to destroy after their shields are down)

As of Artemis 2.3, PShock torpedoes are available from base stations. Comms can request that they be built by a base. This was not the case in Artemis 2.2. In Artemis 2.7.2, or versions between 2.3 and 2.6, their damage, speed, build rate and availability at a base can be edited in artemis.ini. As noted below, adjusting the damage of a PShock torpedo in artemis.ini is not recommended.

Quick Stats

Damage:
1 to a shielded ship or monster, 70 to unshielded ship
Speed:
3
Fire Arc:
360 degrees
DPS: Approx. 6.66 to bare hull, at standard power settings
Base Stores: 0-2 (at start of game)
Build Time:

10 minutes (divided by build factor)

(The exact damage done by a PShock to hull cannot be determined, because all ships have 70 hull. Changing the damageTorp value in artemis.ini does not appear to effect the damage over time. It does effect shield damage, although this damage appears to be divided by 5 for really high values)
