Strike Force Seven Mod

Page history last edited by RyleyRA 7 years, 3 months ago

The Strike Force Seven Mod, by RyleyRA, brings together some of the most famous ships in Sci-Fi, from the Star Trek TMP and TNG Mods, the Battlestar Galactica Mod, Arrew's Master Mod, and more. These ships are not just assembled randomly, though, they are taken from a game I originally wrote 30 years ago, for the Commodore 64. In a plot stolen from "Battle Beyond the Stars", the various ships have come together in defense of the planet Akira, to defend it from a surprise invasion.

There are two versions of the mod, one using the original ships chosen from those popular in the 1970's and 80's, and another version that uses ships from the 90's to the present day. From right to left, the picture for the 70's version shows the Gunstar from "The Last Starfighter", the Battlestar Galactica, the United Galaxy Sanitation ship from "Quark", the TMP Enterprise, the Starfighter from "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century", the Millennium Falcon from "Star Wars", Princess Karina's ship from "The Ice Pirates", and a ship based on the helicopter from "Airwolf". On the image for the 90's version, we have the Buck Rogers Starfighter again, the 2004 Battlestar Galactica, the Enterprise-D from TNG, a flying saucer (similar to the one in "Battle Beyond the Stars") the White Star from "Babylon 5", a robot ship based on Steve Jackson Games' "Ogre", the Starbug from "Red Dwarf", and the Planet Express Ship from "Futurama".

As the Strike Force Seven Mod is currently designed for Artemis 2.3+, players who choose the Battlestar Galactica will have the option to play Viper pilots. The game's UI is NOT modified, as there is no one interface that would be common to all of the ships available. Likewise, the sound effects have not been changed. A custom logo and music on the setup screen is included, plus the latest release includes "UI packs" which will optionally replace the UI and sound effects with those consistent with Star Trek and BSG. (but not the rest of the ships) A version for Artemis 2.1 is also included in the mod, although it removes the player fighters.

The mod also includes a custom mission, which creates a scenario that follows the back story. Two enemy bases will be hidden in nebulas, and the players will need to defend four Akiran bases. In addition, like the original game I wrote, if you play the game solo, you will be given seven other ships from the roster as NPC ships, which you can command from Comms. Each player ship in the scripted mission has access to a special power; for instance, the Enterprise can use a Tractor Beam to tow ally ships around the map, and the Gunstar can use Death Blossom.

The mission is not needed to play the mod, however, and it functions normally in Solo, Co-Op or PvP modes. There will be no NPC versions of the main ships, but additional NPC ships taken from Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica will appear as support for the players. Even other scripted missions can be played, in most cases. In all modes, whether using the Strike Force Seven mission or not, some enemies taken from the various franchises will appear.

These close-ups of the ships are unique to this page. (They can't be found on the forum or in the installation) Note that each ship has a "parody" name, even though their appearance is unchanged. This is mainly in tribute to my original C-64 game, which used similar names. In addition, each ship has its own "special power" in the Strike Force Seven mission. (Not usable in the other game modes) I'll list these special powers for those who want a preview as well.

The 70's versions of "Constitution", "Galaxina", and "Quirk"

Special Powers: Tractor Beam, Fighter Replenishment, Wacky Luck Factor

The "Hydro Raider", (70's version) "Spacewolf", (70's version) and "Trollo"

Special Powers: Robot Boarders & Time/Warp Gate, Sunburst Countermeasures, Tractor Beam

The "Midnight", "Goliath", and "Aeon Hawk". All three are available in both versions.

Special Powers: Cloaking Device & Star Gate, Death Blossom, Percussive Maintenance

The "Bright Star", (90's version) "Xlmbt", and "Universe Parcel Service" (90's version)

Special Powers: Jump Gate, Tractor Beam & Psychic Scrambler, Lesser Luck Factor

The 90's versions of "Constitution", "Galaxina", and "Quirk"

Special Powers: Tractor Beam, Fighter Replenishment, Wacky Luck Factor (same as 70's version)

Special thanks: To Thom Robertson for Artemis, of course. (Thom is not associated with this mod, nor responsible for its content) To MarkBell and TreChipman for the various great Star Trek mods. To Longbowman1346 and Bulldog for the BSG mod, which inspired my own Fighter Mod as well as this one. To Arrew for his Master mod, for the Star Destroyer and original BSG model and inspiring me to make this mod. And to Cptnkoalasniper, for the model of the Planet Express ship. Finally, thanks to all the modelers online that I don't have space to list here, (there are credits are in the mod) and thanks to the producers of all the Sci-Fi shows of the 60's and 70's, especially the weird and obscure ones, like "Quark", that inspired me in the first place.
