TSN Bomber

The TSN Heavy Fighter, colloquially known as the TSN Bomber, is built on the same frame as a TSN Medium Fighter, but trades some speed for a larger complement of missiles. Like the TSN Fighter, it is attached to a Carrier, and is assigned a pilot, who commands that fighter as a separate crew station of the ship.

Although the TSN Bomber is slower and less maneuverable than a fighter, is still much more agile than any capital ship. Like all single seat craft, it is equipped with a Boost engine that can achieve a relative speed of Warp 0.25. The Bomber is also able to stop dead in space, in a relatively short time. Bombers move in three dimensions, and are able to perform roll and pitch maneuvers, so they can dive down on enemies from above, or come up from underneath them.

A TSN Carrier's Fighter Bay will normally carry only TSN Fighters, so if a particular pilot wants to make sure a TSN Bomber is available, he must select one from the ship's Customization screen before starting the game. Players may choose to equip a carrier with a full selection of bombers, a full selection of fighters, or a combination of fighters and bombers. Base stations will have a selection of bare fighter frames which can be outfitted as a TSN Fighter, but if any bombers are lost, they cannot be replaced, at least in standard missions. A scripted mission may provide bombers at particular base stations, but there is no way to know which the base will provide unless the script provides that information.

As with the TSN Fighter, the pilot of a bomber requires information from the Science officer on enemy location and type. A bomber may also require support from Weapons, as it can be overwhelmed by drones or other fighters. A bomber cannot dock with a base, or any other capital ship besides its home ship. At this time, bombers do not use energy, and can go anywhere on the map, if given enough time to get there.
