The Long Range Sensors (LRS) Display

The Long Range Sensors Display is the main reference point for a full view of the current sector. The LRS, as it is commonly called, is a 'top-down' view of the sector, and it provides the location of allied and enemy ships, as well as various space terrain features such as minefields, and black holes. Unlike in Artemis 2.0, asteroids and nebulae cannot be seen on this display, so use Tactical or Zoom level 2 on the Helm console to plan a course around these obstacles.
Unlike Artemis 2.0, the LRS display does not use generic icons for the ships and base stations in the sector. Instead, Long Range Sensors is almost identical to the Tactical display, only differing in the range displayed. The player ship is centered on the screen, and is displayed in green, along with all bases in the sector. Allied ships are in light blue or cyan, and enemy ships are in red, if they are identified, or purple, if they are not.
Only lethal terrain appears at this range. Mines are white, while black holes are yellow. Xeno-organisms are grey until they are identified, at which time they turn purple. Unlike in Artemis 2.0, anomalies are visible on the LRS display, although this may be a bug. Also, unlike Artemis 2.0 all player ships are displayed in green, including fighters and other single seat craft.
The range of the LRS display seems to be around 36k, with the compass ring marking that range. As with Tactical, enemies are visible if within 10k of the Artemis, any friendly ship, or a base station. Enemies can also be hidden if in nebulas or cloaked. The sector is effectively infinite, but the maximum range that can be displayed by clicking on the Zoom level icons at the bottom of the screen is 70k. So, the LRS is able to display about half of that, by default.
Also, power put into the Sensors system affects the LRS display. Less than 100% power will cause the LRS display to flicker, and the lower the power level, the worse the flickering. Damage to the Sensors system will also cause flickering, or even complete lack of LRS if the system is completely damaged. Neither damage nor power to the Sensors effects scan range, it only makes scanning contacts faster.
It is important to note that enemies that enter nebulae are not shown on the LRS display, but the Science Officer can still see them with the ship's sensors, if the enemy is within the range of the ships scanning equipment. (This has not been confirmed but is expected to be the case) Some enemies have the ability to appear invisible to the LRS or even the Mainscreen, but Science can see them. Some enemies can cloak, which will hide them even from Science, but the enemy will appear when they attack, or if their cloak needs to recharge.
The LRS display divides the sector into a number of smaller subsectors, each labelled with a letter from A-Z, and a number from 1-20. The Captain can use this designation to point out destinations on the map, such as "The Science station at L10". All consoles will also display this grid pattern and location designation at Zoom Level 3, so Science in particular can also make use of this feature when reporting incoming threats or available anomalies.
The Tactical and LRS display appear to use the same code and are merely two different scan levels of the standard 2D map, selected with the Tact and LRS buttons on the Helm and Weapons consoles.
