USFP Destroyer

USFP Destroyer

The Destroyer is a heavily-armed vessel that roams the sector. It is the stronger, tougher big brother of the Escort. It can be ordered to turn to various headings, as well as a few other actions by the communications officer. It is more resilient than an Artemis class starship, and deals more beam damage, (it fires much faster) but lacks the area of effect firepower of Nukes and Mines. It can nonetheless be useful in combat, especially in groups. While it lacks warp drive, it does make up for it with extremely high Impulse speed.

According to the description of the Destroyer in Artemis 2.3, it was designed as a system defense ship, and is not equipped with FTL engines. Instead, it uses the space for the extra power cells needed for the rapid fire beams, and impulse engines capable of driving the Destroyer at extremely high sublight speeds. (Compared to the TSN Battleship and Dreadnought) The Destroyer also has less mass that most TSN warships.

(The Destroyer is no longer associated with the USFP in the game, being referred to as "Terran", the same as other civilian craft. It is possible that along with the Escort, the Destroyer is a military design built by the TSN and deployed by civilian forces all over USFP controlled space, much like today's Coast Guard. This means they would not belong to any one fleet, or appear with any single paint job or markings, explaining why the color scheme of these two ships is different)

Quick Stats
Forward Shields:
Back Shields:
Hull: 70
Beam damage:
3-45 depending on difficulty level
Beam DPS:
1.5-22.5, depending on difficulty level
Max beam DPS:
45.00 in the dual-beam forward arc
Beam Range:
1000 (2000 at difficulty 11)
Top Speed:

0.9 - 3.06 depending on difficulty level

(Note a drone or torpedo has a speed of 3)

0.003 - 0.01 depending on difficulty level
Beam Arcs (compared to TSN Light Cruiser)

(Between version 2.0 and 2.2 of Artemis, Beam damage for the Destroyer was 7-35, with damage capped at difficulty 5. Note this is almost as high as its current damage, but was for all difficulties from 5 to 11. Prior to Artemis 2.0, the damage was a constant 7, and the Destroyer's shields and fire rate was more like the current Escort. The current level of damage is from Artemis 2.3)
