An abbreviated time-line of the origins of the Terran Stellar Navy.

2098 - Alexander Fitzgerald confirms the existence of a field effect that can 'warp' space and time.  Limited experimentation leads to his untimely death, along with a spectacular display of energetic particles throughout the Terran solar system.

2111 - Independent teams rediscover Mister Fitzgerald's work, including groups in the United States, Russia, China, Eurozone, and African states.

2121 - An Afrikaner Spaceship is the first to achieve trans-light velocities, shortly before disintegrating, cause unknown.

2143 - Ships now traverse the solar system regularly.  A treaty ban on Trans-Light Weapons is enacted, although development continues in secrecy in every major nation.  The remaining Earthbound nations form an alliance, in order to avoid being left behind.

2157 - Colonies on nearby world have been established.  Skirmishes occur, but are limited due to fears of an all-out war.  The re-introduction of the notion of "Mutually Assured Destruction" keeps the space-faring nations on an even keel.

2175 - The first recorded contact with an Alien race, the Kraliens, occurs in the Corvolis system, as Humanity pushes into the densely-packed stellar region at the core of the Galaxy.  It is discovered that, due to the much shorter travel-time between systems at the core, Trans-Light technology has not been developed.

2177 - Attacks by the Kralien Armada begin, in an attempt to secure Trans-Light technology (TLT).

2178 - The nations of the Earth sign on to the existing Confederated States, as they have the facilities and agreements to govern a multi-state existance, in the face of the alien threat.  Order Number One is the creation of the Terran Star Navy (TSN).

2182 - Additional enemy races, the Argonians and Torgoth, join the Kralien assault on Humanity, each seeking the secrets of TLT.  A single Kralien TLT scouting vessel enters the Terran solar system under Warp Drive, and is quickly destroyed.  The Condeferation now refer to the aliens as a Hegemony.

2183 - A massive line of Star Fortresses are constructed along the void between the core systems and the spiral arm that contains Earth and her initial colonies, on a direct line between the known alien races, and the Sol System.  These stations provide refueling and rearming options, as well as maintaining clouds of defensive minefields.

2187 - The Mark One homing torpedo is introduced to the TSN.  Utilizing an amazingly small TLT Warp Drive, it provides a badly needed combat edge to the beleaguered vessels of the Navy.

2188 - Construction of the Artemis-Class Star Cruiser begins.

2189 - The ConFed Senate passes General Order Seventeen, which authorizes the development and production of Nuclear Weapons, ending a 38 year ban on the technology of mass destruction.  The Type Four Nuclear Torpedo is developed.

2191 - The leading vessels of the Artemis-Class are launched.  Containing the highest technology available to the Star Navy, including the fastest TLT Warp Drive thus produced.  The vessel is capable of speeds well beyond that of the known Alien races, and their armament is far superior.  Crews are hand-picked from all of the ConFed Nations.

2197 - Forward mining stations are constructed in and around important systems or clusters of nebula, which are mined for materials or rare gasses needed for the war effort.  These bases are protected by the Type Six Nuclear Mine, but are otherwise unarmed.  They are typically automated or lightly crewed.

2199 - Individual ships of the Artemis-Class are assigned patrol lanes in and around the various forward mining stations, each tasked with the defense of a given sector of space.

2200 – Ships of a new race, the Skaraans, begin to appear.  Apparently on the opposite side of the Hegemony from Terra, this race has a higher technology level in many areas than Terra.  It appears that they have a Non-Aggression Pact with the Hegemony races, and are testing the TSN’s technology and tactics.
