Junior Officer Expectations

 

Outlined below are the criteria which must be met to advance to the next rank.

 

Ensign

  • Experience in all roles aboard an academy vessel (command role not required).

    • An Ensign must have served in the role of communications officer, helms officer, weapons officer, science officer and engineering officer at least once during a simulation or mission.

    • An Ensign must know how to operate each console at a basic level.

 

  • Selected one specialist area.

    • An Ensign must have a clear idea which area they wish to specialise in initially, and have experience in the role from multiple simulations or missions.

    • An Ensign wanting to be a helms officer must have extensive experience serving in the role of both Helm and Weapons officer.

    • An Ensign must have a secure knowledge of how to operate the console of their chosen specialism.

 

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Combat orders.

    • An Ensign must know all the combat orders and be able to explain, in general terms, what the order communicates to the crew.

    • An Ensign must know what is required for their selected area of expertise when a particular combat order is given.

 

  • Communicate in a clear and professional manner.

    • An Ensign must communicate using standard communications protocol during missions and simulations.

 

Lieutenant-Junior

  • Experience of operating each console.

    • A Lieutenant-Junior must have experience of operating each console at a basic level.

    • A Lieutenant-Junior must begin to understand the capabilities that each console provides an officer and how this can impact how a TSN vessel operates.

 

  • Gained significant experience serving as an officer in their specialist area.

    • A Lieutenant-Junior must be able to operate the console of their chosen specialism to an advanced level and have extensive experience serving in that role.

    • A Lieutenant-Junior must understand the capabilities of their chosen specialism.

 

  • Gained experience serving as an officer in a secondary specialist area.

    • A Lieutenant-Junior must have a secure knowledge on how to operate at least one other console, and have experience serving in that role from multiple simulations or missions.

 

  • Secure knowledge and understanding of the Combat orders.

    • A Lieutenant-Junior must know all the combat orders and be able to explain, in greater detail, what the order communicates to the crew.

 

  • Communicate in a clear and professional manner.

    • An Lieutenant-Junior must communicate in a clear and precise manner following standard communications protocol during missions and simulations.

 

Lieutenant

  • Experience of operating each console.

    • A Lieutenant must have a secure knowledge on how to operate all consoles, and have experience serving in that role from multiple simulations or missions.

    • A Lieutenant must understand the capabilities that each console provides an officer and how this can impact how a TSN vessel operates.

 

  • Fully understand the capabilities of their chosen specialism.

    • A Lieutenant must be able to explain the full capabilities of their chosen specialism.

    • A Lieutenant must have extensive experience serving in their chosen specialism.

 

  • Gained significant experience serving as an officer in a secondary specialist area.

    • A Lieutenant must be able to operate the console of their secondary specialism to an advanced level and have experience serving in that role from multiple simulations or missions.

    • A Lieutenant must be able to explain the capabilities of their secondary specialism.

 

  • Secure knowledge and understanding of the Combat orders.

    • A Lieutenant must know all the combat orders and be able to explain, in detail, what the order communicates to the crew.

 

  • Communicate in a clear and professional manner.

    • A Lieutenant must communicate in a clear and precise manner following standard communications protocol during missions and simulations.
