BioMech Stage 3

BioMech Stage 3

Stage 3 is the "adult" form of the BioMech, a creature that looks like a spaceship, but is actually a living thing. As such, it will only appear if you select "Monsters" in the configuration of a mission, or select the "Infestation" scenario, it does not appear based on difficulty.

Once a BioMech reaches this stage in its evolution, its diet changes drastically. Instead of searching for asteroids to consume, it instead seeks out anomalies and drains the energy from them. This energy is apparently used to provide the power for its massive shields and beam weapons. Once it has consumed enough energy, it evolves to Stage 4.

The beam emitters on a Stage 3 biomech are arranged in a square on its nose, 2 to the left, and 2 to the right. Thus, while it has 4 beams, it has only 2 firing arcs, which overlap in the center. Because a Stage 3 BioMech feeds on anomalies, it may come into competition with the Artemis, leading to a direct confrontation. It is a dangerous foe, combining frightening speed and agility with heavy firepower.

The Stage 3 BioMech is incredibly aggressive, and can presumably detect the energy in enemy ships, although it cannot collect their energy. It may attack monsters to make them drop anomalies, although NSECTs in particular are drawn to attack them, so the BioMech may be acting in self-defense. When the number of BioMechs in a sector reaches Infestation levels, it is the threat that this stage represents to the shipping lanes that demands their immediate extermination. Fortunately, most Stage 3 BioMechs never evolve to Stage 4 and reproduce, due to the rarity of anomalies in most sectors. (This behavior is new to Artemis 2.5)

As with all BioMechs, the Intel screen can be monitored for the Stage 3's Anti-Proton levels, to predict when it will evolve to the next level. The level starts at 1.1, increases to 2.4 after consuming the first anomaly, and after consuming the second anomaly the BioMech will evolve to Stage 4. Note this is different from Stages 1 and 2, which takes three "feedings" instead of two.

Quick Stats
Forward Shields:
350
Back Shields:
350
Hull: 70
Beam damage:
1 - 15 depending on difficulty level
Beam DPS:
0.16 - 2.5 depending on difficulty level
Max beam DPS:
10.0 in forward dual-beam arc, at difficulty 11
Beam Range:
700 (1400 at difficulty 11)
Top Speed:
1.8 - Warp 1 depending on difficulty
Maneuverability:
0.008 - 0.027 depending on difficulty
Beam Arcs (compared to TSN Battleship)

(Prior to Artemis 2.3, Beam damage for the Stage 3 Biomech was 1-5, with damage capped at difficulty 5. Max DPS was therefore 3.33 at all difficulties from 5 to 11. Biomechs were introduced in Artemis 2.0. The current level of damage is from Artemis 2.3)
